Are you looking for a great weekend getaway? Well, you’re in luck because I have just the thing for you. Just an hour away from Joburg, the magnificent Magaliesberg is home to some amazing destinations that are perfect for a quick escape. Let me show you five of the best places to visit in the Magaliesberg.
Thirsty Falls Guest Farm
The locationNestled on the slopes of the Magaliesberg, the Thirsty Falls Guest Farm offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding bushveld from its five charming face-brick cottages.
The atmosphereRelaxation is key at Thirsty Falls. Immerse yourself in tranquility as you sip on gin and tonics, enjoying the company of golden weavers flitting about. Without the distractions of television, it’s an ideal opportunity to catch up with a captivating book. This cozy retreat makes you feel like you’ve truly escaped from it all.
The visitorsThirsty Falls is a popular choice for couples seeking an affordable and hassle-free getaway, as well as small groups of friends who can stay in the larger cottages.
The accommodationsChoose from spacious one, two, or three-bedroom self-catering cottages. While they may lack fancy amenities, they provide all you need for a comfortable stay. For the utmost privacy and a stunning view of the valley, opt for Geranium Cottage. Don’t forget to pack your swimsuit for a refreshing dip in the pool.
If you’re looking for a place to eat, I recommend heading to Brauhaus am Damm, which is around 12 km away. They serve delicious German food, and I highly recommend trying their Pilsner from the on-site brewery. You can even ask for a free taster to see if you like it.
When it comes to highlights, this place has it all. You’ll be treated to breathtaking views wherever you look. And to top it all off, you can enjoy a relaxing spa bath in Geranium Cottage. It’s the perfect way to unwind and make the most of your stay.
Before you go, there are a few things you need to know. The road to the farm can be quite bumpy, so it’s not suitable for cars with a low clearance. Also, keep in mind that a minimum two-night stay is required. Lastly, please note that this place is not suitable for children under 12.
