So here’s the deal – I’m on a mission to find the perfect cup of coffee. And let me tell you, I’ve got my sights set on Simon’s Town. Have you ever heard of it? Well, it’s this awesome little town in Cape Town, South Africa, and it’s got a seriously impressive history. I’m talking about a maritime history that goes way back, with the South African Navy calling this place home.
But you know what else Simon’s Town has? Amazing coffee. I mean, seriously, the coffee scene here is off the charts. The air is filled with the most incredible aromas, and there are these cozy little spots where you can just kick back and relax with your favorite brew.
To reach this charming village from Cape Town, you have two options. You can take the slower coastal route, which winds through Muizenberg and Kalk Bay, offering beautiful views along the way. Alternatively, you can opt for the faster Ou Kaapse Weg route, which takes you over the mountain.
Once you arrive at Jubilee Square, you’ll encounter a statue of Just Nuisance, a legendary Great Dane. Just Nuisance holds a unique distinction as the only dog ever officially enlisted in the Royal Navy.
This quaint town is home to a diverse array of establishments. You’ll find an assortment of restaurants, coffee shops, antique stores, and health and beauty shops. In addition, there are options for accommodations and even some spots for adventure seekers.
If you’re in the mood for a cup of joe and a light meal, you’re in luck. We discovered five delightful coffee shops, both old and new, that are sure to satisfy your caffeine cravings.

3. Cafe Pescado
Just across Jubilee Square, you’ll find Cafe Pescado, a restaurant with a rich history. This building was home to the first Anglican Church in South Africa, built in 1814 for the Royal Navy. Unfortunately, in 1824, a flood partially washed away the church. It was then relocated to the Dockyard before settling in its current location as you enter Simon’s Town.
Afterwards, the building transformed into the Criterion Theatre in 1921. However, due to the Group Areas Act, it had to close down in 1967. At a later date, the building became the home of Barry’s Furniture shop.
Now, the space is home to Cafe Pescado, which first opened its doors on September 3, 1996. This year, they are proudly celebrating their 25th anniversary.
If you’d like to get in touch with them, you can reach Cafe Pescado at 021 786 2272. And when it comes to their opening hours, they are open every day from Monday to Sunday, from 10:30 am to 9 pm.
So, if you’re looking for a place to enjoy a delicious meal with a touch of history, Cafe Pescado is the perfect choice.
Look at this picture! It shows a cool cafe called Celebration Cafe. I heard the walls inside are covered in old postage stamps. The stamps were put up by the postmaster who used to live in this building many years ago. The cafe is actually a part of a larger building called Bay View House, which was built a long time ago in the early 1800s. This building has seen a lot of different things. Can you believe it used to be a jail? And a hospital? And even a horse stable? That’s pretty crazy!
The cafe itself is on the second floor of the building. The first floor is a vintage shop, and the top floor is a guest house where people can stay overnight. So there’s a little something for everyone in this building.
What’s really cool about Celebration Cafe is that they have a unique concept for their food. It’s all about creating your own plate. You can mix and match different foods from their menu to create a dish that you love. How fun is that?
