1. The Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden

As you meander through the garden, be prepared to embark on a journey through the depths of the human spirit. I’ve carefully placed over 60 sculptures along the 4 km of winding paths, each one representing a significant milestone in my artistic journey. These sculptures are not just art pieces; they are windows into the wilderness within each of us.

One of the garden’s highlights is its rich collection of indigenous flora. Bursting with life and vibrant colors, the garden showcases a wide variety of fynbos, a plant species unique to the Western Cape of South Africa. Fragrant buchus and delicate ericas steal the show from July to September, filling the air with their sweet aroma.

I express my emotions through my sculptures, and one of the ideas I explore is the personal journey of seeking the unattainable and the unimaginable. To me, that concept is embodied in the garden – a symbolic space that represents the search for meaning and understanding in life.

This beautiful garden is located in the Cradle of Humankind, just west of Joburg. Unfortunately, the website doesn’t provide much information about the specific gardens, but right now, there are some exciting projects happening. For example, there’s Margins of Error, showcasing installations and performances from South Korea, Morocco, and of course, South Africa. Then there’s The Real DMZ project, curated by the talented Sunjung Kim, and That Hidden Thread, curated by Marta Moriarty.’
