Here’s how it works:

When I want to find the best accommodation, I usually turn to TripAdvisor. It’s a great place to read reviews from fellow travelers. But sometimes, it’s hard to compare hotels based on reviews alone. That’s where I turn to Pippa de Bruyn, an expert in reviewing accommodations. She has been doing this for 18 years and knows all the tricks of the trade. When she visited Prince Albert, she looked at 20 different places. Here are the ones that stood out:

What I discovered about accommodation in Prince Albert:

  • The accommodations in Prince Albert are top-notch. Many hotels and guest houses are rated as superb (9 to 9.4) or exceptional (9.5 and up) on Booking.com. You won’t be disappointed.
  • The hosts in Prince Albert are fantastic. They come from all over the world and have a wonderful sense of style. They have made their places cozy and welcoming. You’ll feel right at home.
  • You have plenty of options when it comes to places to stay in Prince Albert. There are historic cottages, self-catering homes, charming bed and breakfasts, and even a beautiful hotel. There’s something for everyone.
  • Prince Albert offers a unique blend of city and country life. You can stay in a cottage surrounded by farms and wildlife, but still be just a short walk away from the main street with its restaurants and a cool theater. It’s the best of both worlds.
  • The accommodations in Prince Albert are luxurious. Most places have a fireplace and a pool, so you can relax and unwind after a long day of exploring. You’ll feel pampered.
  • Booking your accommodation in Prince Albert is easy. The village has a great tourism website that lists everything you need to know. You can see what’s happening each day, find available accommodations, and even book with a discount. It’s so convenient.

If you’re planning a trip to Prince Albert, these accommodations are definitely worth considering. You’ll have a wonderful stay in this charming village.

The Most Romantic Getaways

Whether you’re planning a romantic weekend or a honeymoon, these places are guaranteed to ignite the flame of love. So, pack your bags and get ready for an unforgettable experience!

1. The French Cottage

Imagine strolling through the charming streets of a French village, hand in hand with your loved one. The French Cottage provides an idyllic setting for a romantic getaway. With its rustic charm and breathtaking views, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a fairytale. Indulge in gourmet cuisine, sip exquisite wine, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

12 wonderful Prince Albert hideaways

As I followed the dusty road, passing a small farm on my right and enjoying the breathtaking views of the mountains, I couldn’t find any signs of the French Cottage. When I finally contacted Elin Bardin, she greeted me with a warm laugh and mentioned that she prefers to keep a low profile. With her guidance, I reached the cottage, which carries the French name due to her husband’s French background.

This cottage has received rave reviews, with a remarkable rating of 9.9. It’s easy to understand why once you step inside. The attention to detail and stylish decorations make it simply perfect. The open-plan kitchen is an absolute food lover’s dream, fully stocked with all the essentials. However, if you prefer dining out, there are excellent restaurants just a short walk away. The main road is only 850 meters from the cottage, ensuring convenient access.

Imagine stepping into a refreshing shower that overlooks a lush inner courtyard filled with ferns. Take a moment to relax on the comfortable extra-length king-size bed in the open-plan lounge, complete with a cozy convection fireplace. Step outside onto the spacious stoep and be in awe of the picturesque olive groves and majestic mountain views. This is a place of complete privacy and tranquility.

If you’re looking for a getaway where peace and quiet reign supreme, this is the perfect destination. With only one bedroom, this retreat is exclusively for adults, ensuring a serene and undisturbed stay. The cost starts at R990 per night for two people, and there is a minimum stay requirement of two nights. To book your stay, visit thefrenchcottage.net.

A Sight to Behold

2. The Barn House

12 wonderful Prince Albert hideaways

Hey there! Take a look at this amazing photograph by Andreas Eiselen. It captures the breathtaking beauty of Prince Albert, surrounded by majestic mountains. But let me tell you, the view from Barn House is absolutely surreal. From there, you can see farm fields dotted with charming angora goats and the Swartberg Mountains painted against a vivid blue sky.

Now, here’s something interesting about the Barn House. It was actually built as a family home, not for rental purposes. That’s why it’s so well-furnished and full of character. The house is adorned with fantastic art that adds to its unique charm. But wait, there’s more!

One of the highlights of the Barn House is its natural pool. But it’s not just any pool. This secluded oasis is a little away from the main house. You can enjoy a cool dip while surrounded by olive trees. And if you want to take a refreshing outdoor shower, you can do that too. The pool area also has a built-in braai (that’s a fancy word for a barbecue) and a lovely shaded dining table. Oh, and did I mention the private setup and the stunning mountain view? Absolutely incredible!

If you need any assistance during your stay at the Barn House, you’re in luck! It’s managed by the neighboring Dennehof, where you’ll find Ria Steyn ready to help you with anything you need. Whether it’s advice on restaurant bookings or arranging tours, she’s got you covered.

Note: If you’re planning on staying at Dennehof, here are some important details you should keep in mind:

  • Room tip: The property has three bedrooms, two of which have en-suite bathrooms. However, please note that the bed configuration is better suited for two couples and two children rather than six adults.
  • Cost: The price starts at R4500 and the property can accommodate up to six guests.
  • Contact: For more information or to make a reservation, visit the dennehof.co.za website.

A great choice for food enthusiasts

Reserving a spot in the cooking course is a must, but don’t worry, they run every day and all year round. After your time in the kitchen, you’ll have the opportunity to retreat to your comfortable cottage and unwind. And if you’re in the mood for a drink, just head over to the nearby Swartberg Hotel.

Be sure to check our website for updates on upcoming events and chefs.

If you’re looking for a room recommendation: I personally prefer the location of Akkedis, a beautifully restored labourers’ cottage, and Doringbos, a renovated reservoir, both situated on the outskirts of town. Alternatively, Deurdrift 1 and 2 are located just off the main road in town.
Pricing: Our rates start from R600 per person sharing for self-catering accommodations (sleeps two). Akkedis Cottage is priced at R1850 (sleeps four). We offer half-day courses starting from R850 and full day courses for R1500. Breakfast can be arranged upon request.

4. Country House Vrisch Gewagt

So, you’re planning a trip and you’re trying to find a place to stay. Well, let me tell you about TripAdvisor! It’s a website that can help you find the perfect spot to stay while you’re traveling. And guess what? It’s ranked as the second-best website for finding specialty lodgings! How cool is that?

12 wonderful Prince Albert hideaways

Wow, you won’t believe what I discovered! There’s this incredible place located just 35 kilometers outside of Prince Albert that I have to tell you about. It’s a historic farm that spans an impressive 1,600 hectares. Ever since the new owners took over in 2009, they have poured their hearts into developing and caring for this property.

One of the standout features of this farm is the 16,000 olive trees they planted, which produce the most delicious olive oil you can imagine. It’s truly a labor of love, and you can taste the passion in every drop.

But the farm has so much more to offer than just olives. As you explore the grounds, you’ll come across five cozy cottages that have been beautifully designed and furnished. There are also two stunning houses available: the Manor, which sits high above the farm and offers magnificent panoramic views, and Paradys, a charming 19th-century farmhouse nestled deep in the valley.

Each cottage and house is equipped with its own fabulous veranda, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee or unwinding with a glass of wine in the evening. And of course, there are pools to cool off in and soak up the sun.

These accommodations are ideal for larger families or groups of friends who want to celebrate a special occasion or simply escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Surrounded by nature and breathtaking scenery, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a paradise.

If you’re looking for a unique and rejuvenating getaway, this place has it all. Trust me, once you experience it, you’ll never want to leave.

If you’re in need of a serene and inspiring environment to fuel your creativity, look no further than the two charming cottages by the riverside. These cozy retreats are perfect for writers, artists, or anyone seeking a romantic getaway. And if romance is what you’re after, let me tell you, Hannes Cottage is the epitome of allure. It’s a place where you can escape from the world and find solace in your artistic pursuits.

The hosts of these cottages truly understand how to make their guests feel special. Upon arrival, they treat you to their homemade olive oil and olives, a bottle of red wine, and even Nespresso pods for your morning coffee fix. And if you have a hankering for some fresh produce, feel free to help yourself to the fruits and vegetables from their garden. It’s a little slice of paradise where you can indulge your senses.

Looking for accommodation for a small family? The two-bedroom cottages, Cook’s and Library, are the perfect choice. They provide a comfortable and cozy space for you and your loved ones to enjoy each other’s company. And if you’re traveling with a larger group, there are houses available that can accommodate up to six or eight people.

Now, let’s talk about the cost. These delightful cottages can be yours starting from R1900 for a two-sleeper or R3900 for a four-sleeper. If you prefer a larger space, there are houses available starting from R6,500. It’s well worth the price for the experience you’ll have.

If this sounds like the perfect getaway for you, don’t hesitate to get in touch with vrischgewagt.co.za. They will be more than happy to assist you in making your dream retreat a reality.

12 wonderful Prince Albert hideaways

Hey there! Take a look at this amazing place I found. I’ve always been a fan of this charming farm-turned-guest house. It’s located on Kweekvallei Farm, which has some of the best soil and water in the area. Did you know it’s actually the oldest building in Prince Albert? It was built in 1835 by Zacharias de Beer for his granddaughter.

The farm has been beautifully renovated over time, keeping its unique character intact. The buildings have those classic thick whitewashed walls and polished floors. It’s a perfect blend of elegance and rustic charm. You can really feel the history here.

Ria Steyn, the owner, has a great sense of style. The decor is elegant, but it still has that cozy, down-to-earth feel. You’ll love the atmosphere.

By the way, Lindsay, Ria’s husband, offers an awesome bike hire service. They have all types of bikes available, even tandems! And if you’re up for it, he also does a fantastic all-day tour to Die Hel.

So, if you’re looking for a unique and historic place to stay, this farm-turned-guest house is definitely worth considering. You won’t be disappointed!

An exciting breakfast menu is served outside by the trees near the leiwater canal, or inside the conservatory when the weather is bad. And if you’re lucky, you might even get to experience a candlelit dinner here too. It’s a special treat that they offer twice a week.

If you’re looking for the perfect room, let me tell you about The Wagon Shed. It’s one of the honeymoon suites, and it has its own private outdoor bath. Plus, it’s right by the farm reservoir pool. Another great option is the Windmill. Both of these rooms are highly recommended for couples.

But my personal favorites are The Forge and The Cottage. The Forge is so charming, and The Cottage is perfect for families when booked with The Dairy. I should mention that The Cottage is only available to guests who are 12 years old and above.

The cost for staying at this wonderful place starts at R650 per person, which includes a delicious breakfast. If you want to get in touch with them, simply visit their website at dennehof.co.za.

Now, let’s talk about the best two-bedroom cottage. It’s called Olive Grove Cottage, and it’s truly outstanding.

12 wonderful Prince Albert hideaways

Wow, take a look at this charming village! It’s full of cozy cottages that you can rent. But let me tell you, none of them are quite as perfect as Olive Grove. This beautiful dark-grey cottage is located on the grounds of Olive Grove House, owned by Dee and Daniel Millner.

Olive Grove has everything you could ever want. The decor is absolutely fabulous, and the cottage itself is incredibly spacious. The kitchen is so charming, and it’s equipped with everything you need – you won’t be disappointed. One of the best things about it is that it’s open to the dining room, with a stunning fireplace taking center stage. You’ll feel right at home!

But that’s not all. Olive Grove also has a splendid stoep, where you can dine and lounge in complete comfort. From there, you’ll have a beautiful view of the garden, the amazing pool and deck, and an awesome outdoor firepit and braai area. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy yourself.

Now let me tell you about the bedrooms. The main bedroom is en-suite and absolutely lovely. The second bedroom is also en-suite and can be set up with twin beds or a king-size bed – whatever suits you best. And here’s a little something extra – the Millners have added some special touches to make your stay even better. You’ll find rusks, wine, coffee, and even some olive oil to use.

And guess what? Olive Grove is conveniently located within walking distance of all the hotspots on the high street. So you won’t have to go far to find some fun!

Now let’s talk about the price, because it’s really fantastic. Especially if you’re traveling with a group of four, the cost is only R350 per person. That’s a great deal for everything you get at Olive Grove.

I don’t know about you, but I think Olive Grove is the perfect place to stay in this charming village. I can’t wait to go there myself!

Hey there! I wanted to tell you about this awesome place called Prince Albert Country Stay. It’s a bed and breakfast that I think you’ll absolutely love.

If you’re looking for a cozy spot to relax and unwind, then you have to check out Dee’s en-suite unit called Pip. It’s attached to the main house and has a beautiful stoep (that’s a porch) with a private entrance from the garden. It’s perfect for solo travelers or couples looking for a standalone option. Plus, if you’re traveling with a group, Pip can also be booked as an additional room with the cottage.

12 wonderful Prince Albert hideaways

As I walked along the high street, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the captivating display of vintage items in the Victorian shop. The air was thick with a mouthwatering scent of sizzling onions, thanks to William Penfold, who was busy cooking in his apron using the exquisite olive oil produced by Vrisch Gewagt. The moment I stepped into the back courtyard, shaded by the surrounding buildings, I was greeted by Colleen, William’s wife. The tranquil space featured a serene pond, a charming fountain, and a raised swimming pool at its center, serving as the entrance to each room.

It was evident that every corner of this place had been carefully restored by William, a retired builder, who preserved the unique charm of the turn-of-the-century architecture. And it wasn’t just the buildings that exuded history; the couple had also filled each room with an enchanting collection of vintage treasures they had collected over the years. When I finally reached my loft room, an overwhelming sense of comfort enveloped me. It was a space that exuded tranquility, making it difficult for me to leave its embrace.

I came back after finishing dinner to see William and Colleen enjoying their meal on the front porch. Joining them felt like reconnecting with dear old friends. William prepares the breakfast himself, using fresh ingredients sourced from the kitchen garden. It’s truly a remarkable place and an incredible deal.

Room tip: All the rooms are stunning, but I’m definitely booking the Loft again.

Cost: Starting from R470 per person including breakfast. Don’t forget to ask about the winter special.

So, check this out – I found some pretty cool stuff to do in this town. Get ready for a good time!

First up, there’s a new gin bar called the Green Prince at the Swartberg Hotel. They’ve got tastings and even a G&T keg that works just like a beer tap. How cool is that?

Next on the list is the Art Bin route. They’ve decorated over a hundred dustbins to celebrate the town’s 250th birthday. That’s definitely something you don’t see every day!

Now, here’s something really interesting. You can go on special guided outings to check out the town’s amazing attractions. Oh, and make sure to grab a bottle of SoetKaroo wine from the Perolds’ little vineyard in town. It’s like a taste of heaven!

Lastly, there’s this awesome labyrinth at MyShire Farm in the Weltevrede Valley. It’s so big that even horses can walk through it. How’s that for a unique experience?

So, there you have it – some pretty amazing things to do in this town. Go out there and enjoy!
