So, where did I go to find these amazing tapas? Well, I started my journey in the heart of the city, where a trendy restaurant serves up mouthwatering plates of deliciousness. 12 terrific tapas spots in Cape Town MzansiBride

Let me tell you some stories about where tapas came from. My favorite ones are about a king who could only eat small amounts of food because he was sick and needed to drink a little bit of wine. Another story I like is that tapas bars used to be so crowded that people had to put their plates on top of their glasses, so they had to be small plates. It’s hard to know for sure where tapas came from, but we do know that they started in Spain and now they’re enjoyed all over the world.

So, I wanted to find the best places to eat tapas that are delicious, affordable, and won’t break the bank. And guess what? I found 11 places where you can eat as many tapas as you want without spending too much money. Plus, I found one place that’s a little more expensive, but it’s worth treating yourself every now and then.

1. Pure at Hout Bay Manor, Hout Bay

12 terrific tapas spots in Cape Town MzansiBride

Hout Bay Manor is a really cool old building that was built in 1871. Inside, there’s a fancy restaurant called Pure Restaurant. They have a special deal where you can get two-for-one tapas in the garden or on the patio from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The food is amazing! We tried the bruschetta, which came with three different toppings. Our favorite was the salmon and cream cheese. We also had the pork belly pops and the potato and mozzarella croquettes, which were both really tasty. The bill came to R235 for a platter of food that could’ve easily fed four people. They also have a special where you can get two-for-one local beers and house wine. You can get a glass of wine for just R20! It’s a fancy place, but it’s still affordable, so it’s a great spot to meet up with friends after work. You should definitely check it out!

We tried the Bo Kaap bobotie spring rolls, the delicious cured barbecue salmon, the salt & pepper squid with squid-ink rice, the venison with red cabbage, and a fresh crispy cos, peas, and avocado salad. When it was time to pay, the bill was only R310 and we left feeling really satisfied! On Fridays, they have something special called Stella Sessions, where you can drink as much Graham Beck bubbly as you want between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM for R195. They keep refilling your glass, and the waiters somehow magically appear out of nowhere! Even if you don’t have bubbly, they still give you some snacks – it’s a fantastic way to start your weekend.

12 terrific tapas spots in Cape Town MzansiBride

Trying to find a spot for breakfast at Sotano during the weekend can be quite a challenge. It’s a really popular place, probably because they’re also pet-friendly and even have water bowls for our furry friends. And it’s always a good thing when you can bring your pup along, right?

But it’s not just about being pet-friendly. Sotano also serves up some fantastic breakfast options. And if you’re in the mood to share, they’ve got a nice variety of tapas and platters too. So there’s something for everyone.

Let me tell you about the dishes we tried. We started with the deep-fried stuffed squid. It was crispy on the outside, and the stuffing was flavorful and delicious. Definitely a winner. Then we had the French-style steamed mussels in white wine. They were really generous with the portion, and the mussels were tender and tasty. Perfect with a glass of wine.

Next up was the rosemary-grilled baby aubergine with a hummus dip. The aubergine had a nice smoky flavor from the grill, and the hummus was smooth and creamy. It was a great combination. And finally, we couldn’t resist ordering the gambas al Ajillo. These Spanish grilled garlic-chilli prawns were served with toasted baguette slices. The prawns were juicy and packed a punch of flavors.

For all of this amazing food, we paid R306. It’s definitely worth every cent. So if you’re looking for a place to have a delicious and satisfying breakfast (or some tasty tapas), consider checking out Sotano. Just make sure to plan ahead, because it gets pretty busy on the weekends. And don’t forget to bring your four-legged friend along!

When I went to this restaurant, I was mostly in the mood for seafood. But I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they have a lot of other delicious options on their menu. You can try their truffle parmesan potato chips, Shiraz-braised beef short ribs, smoky pork belly, and chorizo croquettes, among other things. And if you visit on a Sunday, you can enjoy the music of The Rivertones, a popular reggae band, from 4:00 to 7:00 in the evening.

12 terrific tapas spots in Cape Town MzansiBride

I found a great place called Taqueria on the tapas route, and it quickly became one of my favorites. The best part is that it’s not only cheerful and colorful, but also very affordable. When I went there, I decided to get tacos for myself. I tried a beef taco with chimichurri salsa, a roast butternut with caramelized onion, goat cheese, and rocket quesadilla, and a crispy duck with Pasilla salsa taco from the specials board. Surprisingly, all of that delicious food only cost me R109, which was more than enough to satisfy my big appetite. The great thing about Taqueria is that they have daily specials. From Monday to Friday between 12:00 and 17:00, they offer a three-for-two deal where you order three food items and get the cheapest one for free! If you’re a fan of pork, you should definitely try the chicharrons, which are crispy pork scratchings. And if you’re into tequila, they have a wide selection of tequila and tequila cocktails that you’ll love. Make sure to visit Taqueria if you’re in the area.

Now, let’s talk about another fantastic place called Massimo’s in Hout Bay.

12 terrific tapas spots in Cape Town MzansiBride

So, I brought along a good friend of mine to try out this place. It turns out that even though she comes here often, she had no clue that they serve tapas! This cozy family-owned restaurant offers a great selection of ‘spuntini’ (Italian for starters), which makes a refreshing change from the usual pizza or pasta you find at Italian joints. We decided to try a little bit of everything, starting with the caprese – a combination of creamy fior di latte mozzarella, tomato, avocado, and basil oil. Next up was the belladonna, a mouthwatering dish of grilled aubergines with basil, mint, garlic, and marinated in olive oil. The seared beef carpaccio with rocket, extra virgin olive oil, and parmesan shavings was an absolute treat for the taste buds. We also couldn’t resist the fagiolo, a delightful mix of borlotti beans, wild mushrooms, onions, and herbs all marinated in olive oil. And let’s not forget the pepite, which were these cute little fried polenta bites, generously topped with parmesan cheese and dusted with truffle salt. For a taste of Spain, we indulged in the flamenco – Spanish cauliflower fritters with a kick of paprika. And finally, we couldn’t resist the seafood fritto misto – a classic Italian dish of fried seafood served with a flavorful dill and spring onion aioli. Needless to say, we ordered way too much food, but how can you resist when it’s all so delicious?

Hi there! I want to tell you about a fantastic pizzeria called Massimo’s, owned by Massimo and Tracy. They’re passionate about using only the best Italian ingredients, sourced locally for the most part, but they do bring in a few special items all the way from Italy, like the Parmesan cheese and Parma ham.

When you visit Massimo’s, you might notice something missing from their pizza menu – chicken! That’s because in Italy, it’s not common to find chicken as a topping on pizza. It’s interesting to note that Massimo actually grew up on a chicken farm. You should check out the incredible photo of him by the pizza oven!

Not only does Massimo’s offer delicious food, but they also give back to their community. They donate a portion of your bill to local charities, making a positive impact right in their own neighborhood.

Tip: Make sure to ask for one of their alcohol-infused sugar cubes with a touch of citrus. I won’t spoil the surprise, but it’s definitely a unique and tasty experience!

If you’re looking to get in touch with Massimo’s, you can reach them at Tel 0217905648 or visit their website at www.pizzaclub.co.za.

10. Fork, City Bowl

12 terrific tapas spots in Cape Town MzansiBride

Hey there! So, this awesome spot on Long Street is a local favorite for its Spanish-inspired pinchos, but with a South African twist. And let me tell you, their dishes are not only delicious but also beautifully presented. They serve the pinchos in sets of four, so if you’re sharing, you can totally mix it up and try two of each. Now, my friends and I were feeling hungry, so we ordered seven generous dishes between the three of us. Guess what? The total bill was just R375! Yeah, you heard that right. Fork is probably one of the most budget-friendly options for tapas in town.

The menu is packed with mouth-watering options. For example, they have aubergine, sweet potato, and chickpea coconut curry. Oh, and let me tell you, it comes in these adorable tiny bowls and is absolutely delicious. Another must-try is the risotto tart with parmesan, truffle mushrooms, and rocket. Talk about a flavor explosion! If you’re a fan of seafood, you can’t go wrong with the smoked salmon rolls. They’re served on crispy crostini, with cream cheese, dill, and salmon caviar. Yum!

But wait, there’s more! How about trying their roast pork belly with a tasty mustard and parsley crust? It’s absolutely divine. Oh, and if you’re a seafood lover like me, you have to try their grilled tiger prawns wrapped with pancetta. Trust me, it’s fantastic! They also have mini kudu fillets with potato gratin, garlic spinach, and a tangy citrus reduction. Believe me when I say, it’s melt-in-your-mouth goodness! And if you’re in the mood for some Moroccan flavors, their meatballs are a real treat.

The best part? The prices are super reasonable. You can get started with dishes as low as R30. Plus, they have daily specials that are worth checking out. Now, let’s talk about the ambiance. You have the option to sit downstairs near their really nice bar. But, if you want a view of all the action happening on Long Street, you can grab a spot upstairs or on the balcony. It’s always a great time!

Note: It’s important that you make a reservation and if you’re running late, it’s a good idea to let them know so they don’t give away your table.

11. Foodbarn Deli and Tapas Bar, Noordhoek

12 terrific tapas spots in Cape Town MzansiBride

The Foodbarn came highly recommended, and I can see why. This place is amazing. During the day, it’s a deli, but at night (from 6 PM on Tuesdays to Saturdays), it transforms into a tapas bar. The menu is packed with 32 different dishes, which can be quite overwhelming. But don’t worry, I can help you narrow it down.

Let me tell you about some of the dishes we tried. First, there’s the panko crumbed brie. Oh my, it’s heavenly! The crispy coating and gooey cheese inside is a match made in heaven. We also had the steamed mussels, which were incredibly flavorful. And let’s not forget about the bunny chow. It’s not only delicious but also adorable!

We also tried the field mushroom and asparagus gratinated with parmesan hollandaise. Pure perfection. The flavors melded together beautifully. And then there’s the spicy baby calamari with harissa mayo, crunchy chickpeas, and coriander. It had the perfect amount of kick and was bursting with flavor. Lastly, we couldn’t resist the chicken satay. It was juicy, tender, and full of flavor.

Now, let’s talk about the price. For all this amazing food, we paid R326. And guess what? We couldn’t finish it all, so we ended up taking some home. But that’s not all. We also bought some books from their lovely library, which were priced at just R40.

The deli itself is incredibly cozy and comfortable. You could easily spend the whole day there, enjoying the atmosphere and indulging in all the delicious food.

12 terrific tapas spots in Cape Town MzansiBride

Wow, this place is way out of my budget! But if I’m feeling fancy for a special occasion, the brand-new Chefs Warehouse at Beau Constantia is a food adventure and taste sensation that I’ll never forget. Their special tapas meal for two costs R650, and it’s made up of eight dishes served in three courses. That’s a ton of food, and it’s seriously the most gorgeous food you’ve ever seen. (If you’re an Instagram addict like me, get ready to spend some serious time snapping photos!)

Every week, we update our menu by replacing two items. This keeps things exciting and ensures that we are using the freshest ingredients. We also take into consideration the season and the time of year. For example, we know that nobody wants a salad in the winter.

During my experience, I had the pleasure of indulging in some truly incredible dishes. One standout was the barbecued Franschhoek trout. It was served with a garden vichyssoise, lemon roe dressing, and charred and pickled alliums. The combination of flavors was exquisite.

Another highlight was the pea risotto. It was cooked to perfection and topped with Belnori goats cheese, fried pea, and coppa salsa. I couldn’t get enough of it!

I also had the pleasure of trying the wood-fired pork loin. It was glazed with a sherry caramel and served with apricots, almond puree, and a thyme jus. The flavors were rich and satisfying.

Finally, I tried the Moroccan lamb rib, which was accompanied by homemade ricotta and a Hawaji Spice. This dish was the chef’s favorite, and I could see why. The spices were perfectly balanced, and the lamb was tender and juicy.

If you’re looking for a fantastic dining experience with a diverse and ever-changing menu, you’ll love what we have to offer. Come try our delicious dishes for yourself!

After devouring eight delectable dishes, my dining companions and I couldn’t fathom the thought of indulging in dessert. However, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can explore the desserts section and find treats like bon bons, lemon posset, chocolate pot, and a unique honeycomb and smoked cassia bark ice cream. I must confess, some of these ingredients were completely foreign to me, but my taste buds enthusiastically approved! And when you’ve finished your culinary journey, take a moment to savor the experience, licking your lips in satisfaction while admiring the delightful view – as they say, it’s what they’re renowned for.

Note: Remember, it’s crucial to book in advance, as this place is quite popular. Also, be punctual, as they might give your table away if you’re more than 30 minutes late.
