3. Visit this emerald urban gem
When I visited Cape Town, I was mesmerized by the beautiful scenery and the ducks swimming in the waters beneath the iconic mountain. It was a sight that brought me joy and a sense of tranquility.
I want to introduce you to Green Point Park, a hidden treasure in the heart of the city. It’s a place that will make you feel instantly happy, just like it did for me.
One of my favorite things to do in Green Point Park is to go on a guided tour. For just an additional R35, you can arrange to have a knowledgeable guide show you around and provide interesting insights about the park. It’s a great way to deepen your understanding and appreciation of this special place. If you’re interested in joining a guided tour, contact the Cape Town Stadium at Tel 0214170120.
Pff, don’t worry about your savings account holding you back from experiencing the dazzling world of diamonds. Yeah, I know it seems like a weird thing to mention, but the Sparkling Tour is actually pretty cool and it won’t cost you a cent. Plus, you’ll learn all about diamond cutting, get a history lesson on South Africa’s diamond and gold trade, and they even throw in a free glass of wine. Not too shabby, right?
5. Look up at the stars
Ever wondered about that mysterious night sky? Well, on the second or fourth Saturday of each month, the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) in Observatory opens its doors to curious people like you. Starting at 8:00 p.m., you can enjoy a 45-minute presentation that’ll introduce you to the famous McClean telescope. And if the weather’s on your side, you might even get to take a peek through the McClean and other telescopes to see what’s happening up there.
Hey there! I’ve got some exciting news for you – you can now enjoy free Astronomy Outreach events until December 23rd, 2017! Thanks to the Cape Centre of the Astronomical Society of Southern Africa, telescopes will be provided so you can get up close and personal with the sun, moon, and other amazing cosmic objects at the V&A Waterfront Pierhead. You can experience this incredible opportunity from 3:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Just give them a call at 0823354851 or 0828981057 to learn more!
Here’s a handy tip: If you’re planning a weekend camping getaway to the beautiful Cederberg, don’t forget to visit the Cederberg Observatory. It’s open every Saturday (except when there’s a full moon) and offers a presentation and telescope viewings for the public. Best of all, entry is absolutely free, though they do appreciate any donations you’re willing to make.
6. Treat Yourself to a Wine Tasting Experience
Do you enjoy the delightful sound of glasses clinking together? Are you on your way to becoming a wine expert? If you answered ‘yes!’, then this is the perfect city for you. Wine Concepts in Newlands Village and Kloof Street hold daily wine tastings where you can try different wines for free. These tastings take place on weekdays from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
7. Kickstart your weekend with #FreeBeerFriday
Get a head start on your weekend fun at Beerhouse in Long Street. By knowing a secret code, you can get a free beer between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM every Friday. Just keep an eye on their Facebook or Twitter pages to find the code and say it at the entrance.
8. Go for a moonlit bike ride
When the moon shines down on the city of San Francisco, something magical happens. Bicycles gather together, their sleek frames and spinning wheels reflecting the moonlight. It’s a sight to behold as cyclists and bike enthusiasts unite for a monthly event known as Critical Mass.
I’m a big fan of this gathering. It’s not only an opportunity to have a great time, but it’s also a chance to make a statement about the importance of using environmentally friendly transportation. And let’s not forget about the chance to admire the beautiful streets of San Francisco under the enchanting glow of dusk.
If you want to join this extraordinary event, all you need to do is show up. The starting point for Critical Mass is Green Point Circle, and the event takes place from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. You can mark your calendar for the remaining night cycle dates in 2017: September 6th, October 5th, November 4th, and December 3rd.
9. Embrace the Night Ride
Hey there, mark your calendars for an exciting event happening on 1 October 2017! We’re closing down five kilometers of Main Road to cars and opening it up to the community. It’s called Open Streets, and the goal is to create a space where everyone can come together and enjoy the street. Whether you’re walking, using a wheelchair, skateboarding, or biking, this event is all about reclaiming the streets and making them a public space.
This is the first time we’re doing Open Streets on Main Road, and we’re also taking over sections of Darling Street, Sir Lowry, and Victoria Road. It’s going to be a blast! Throughout the day, there will be tons of fun activities to keep you entertained and engaged. Think street performances, games, sports, and even street art. We’ve got it all!
10. Embrace your inner artist in the evening
As I stroll along Lower Main Road in Observatory, I can’t help but feel an electric buzz of creativity in the air. It’s an atmosphere that truly comes alive during the ART Thursdays event, where we come together to honor and indulge in the power of artistic expression. Taking place every second Thursday of the month from 18:00 to 22:00, ART Thursdays is a vibrant celebration of galleries, musicians, artists, businesses, and visionaries in Observatory.
11. Immerse yourself in a world of culture
Hey there! Did you know that Cape Town has an awesome event called First Thursdays? It’s been a hit for the past five years – a unique way to have fun in the middle of the week. Imagine this: art galleries that are usually closed during the week actually stay open late on the first Thursday of each month! Isn’t that cool? You can check out the latest exhibitions, enjoy cultural events, and even watch performances. It’s like a creative adventure around the city!
And guess what? You can download a map to help you navigate your way through this exciting experience. Plus, there’s a chance you might even score some freebies along the way! So mark your calendar because First Thursdays takes place on Bree and Church Street between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM. The next one is happening on September 7, 2017.
