Discover 10 Affordable Bush Lodges near Kruger National Park
Guess what? You can actually have an amazing wildlife adventure without breaking the bank in the private reserves west of Kruger National Park. I’m about to reveal 10 hidden gem lodges that offer a thrilling bush experience without emptying your wallet.
Let me introduce you to Cameron Ewart-Smith, a talented photographer who captured the essence of these lesser-known lodges in a remarkable story written by Paul Maughan-Brown. Together, they uncovered the charm of these hidden gems located in the scenic Lowveld’s private reserves.
“I found some amazing places at really good prices, and it’s got me thinking that maybe my next affordable safari won’t be to Kruger. I don’t mind paying a bit more for private lodges because I know the experience there will be extraordinary. These lodges prioritize the visitor’s experience above everything else. Game drives are better (no restrictions on vehicle design), incredible sightings are practically guaranteed, and best of all, no one in your family will have to cook.” – Cameron Ewart-Smith
Welcome to Leadwood Private Camp
Located in Timbavati Private Nature Reserve
When you hear the name Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, you might think of fancy lodges with incredibly high prices. But that’s not completely true. Follow the hard-to-find dirt roads to the gates and discover Leadwood Camp, a small white-walled homestead that becomes your own private home in the wilderness. As I push open the polished, patchwork front door of the main building, I’m immediately greeted by the intimidating bust of a buffalo. The walls are adorned with elephant tusks and a jackal pelt, adding a touch of nature to the two cozy living areas. You’ll even find a TV in one of the lounges if you feel like catching up on your favorite shows.
Outside, imagine a deck that stretches out over the rocky banks of the Nhlaralumi riverbed. That’s where you’ll find a long dining table, perfect for gathering with friends and family, as well as cozy cushioned couches made from a special plastic-weave material. From here, you have the perfect vantage point to admire the ancient leadwood tree, which has stood tall for an incredible 1,200 years. As you relax, you may spot waterbuck quietly grazing below.
Now, let’s head inside the house and discover the kitchen. It’s a cook’s dream come true! With not just one, but two ovens, and plenty of space in the freezer, you’ll have all the tools you need to whip up culinary masterpieces. From a handy lettuce spinner to convenient muffin trays, all the essentials are right at your fingertips. And the best part? You don’t have to worry about cleaning up afterwards – our attentive staff will take care of that for you.
The communal area is separated from the bedrooms by a beautiful fire pit, adding a touch of warmth and ambiance to the space. Speaking of bedrooms, there are four semi-detached double en-suite rooms for you to choose from. Each one is thoughtfully designed to offer comfort and privacy. In the separate master suite, you’ll find a burst of color provided by freshly picked bougainvillea blooms. The room itself is adorned in rustic red and maroon tones, creating a calming and inviting atmosphere. And if you’re feeling warm, you can easily switch on the ceiling fan without even having to get out of bed.
It’s clear that every detail in this house has been carefully considered by its owner, Jan Wilkens. From the breathtaking river views to the well-equipped kitchen and the cozy bedrooms, everything has been designed with your comfort and enjoyment in mind. So come and experience this remarkable riverside retreat for yourself – we promise you won’t be disappointed.
When you go on a game drive with manager-guide Andries Banyisi, you have the freedom to decide when and how it happens. Whether you want to see the Big Five or simply observe a hornbill building its nest, there is no fixed schedule – the choice is yours. As you explore the diverse tracks that wind through sandy riverbeds, you can’t help but feel a surge of anticipation, hoping to catch a glimpse of a leopard.
Let’s talk about the rates. If you’re interested in a self-catering option, it costs R36,000 for a group of 10 people who stay from Saturday to Saturday. This includes two game drives every day, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to experience the wildlife.
Now, let’s move on to the traversing area. You’ll have access to almost 20,000 hectares of land, allowing you to explore a vast and diverse landscape teeming with wildlife.
Speaking of wildlife, you can expect to see some incredible sightings. Keep an eye out for lions, leopards, hyenas, elephants, and white rhinos – all within the confines of the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve.
So there you have it – an unforgettable adventure awaits you at Africa On Foot in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. With Andries Banyisi as your guide, you’ll have the opportunity to create your own game drive experience, immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
Can’t stand being stuck in a car for hours? But do you love the wild beauty of the bush? Well, in Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, which is part of the unfenced greater Kruger National Park, Africa On Foot has an amazing experience for you. Instead of taking a boring drive, they offer seven- to 10-kilometer morning walks that will bring you even closer to the bush. With experienced guides like Rein Kock and Courteney Blunden, you’ll get to explore the mopaneveld and thorny woodland savannah, as well as cross small plains.
What makes this experience truly special is that, unlike being in a vehicle, you’ll get to see and hear things that you would never notice otherwise. For example, you’ll witness the intricate entrance to a baboon spider’s hole, or the delicate lobes of a leopard’s footprint. And without the constant roar of a Landy, you’ll be able to fully appreciate the enchanting sounds of cackling birds that fill the air.
After this invigorating walk, you’ll return to the camp for a well-deserved breakfast. You’ll have a bead of sweat on your brow and a growling in your tummy, but the experience will be absolutely unforgettable.
I sit under the thatched roof of the bar and dining area, surrounded by canvas walls. Around me, the accommodation is scattered, each one offering a unique and cozy experience. In the heart of it all stands an old tree trunk, buried headfirst, serving as a centerpiece between comfortable cushioned couches. Bees flit from here to your rondavel, and moths fill the air, dancing in the moonlight above the lush green grass.
At this camp, unlike many others, you have the freedom to roam between the bar and your bedroom without an escort. Even in the dark of night, you can make the short journey alone. And as the evening draws near, an oil lamp illuminates the entrance of your bungalow, casting a warm glow. This camp is completely off the grid, relying on solar power and gas to create a sustainable and eco-friendly retreat.
Inside your en-suite rondavel, the furnishings are modest yet comfortable. Twin beds invite you to rest and relax, while an armchair and writing desk provide a space for reflection and creativity. Open hanging and shelf space offer practicality and convenience. And on those hot nights, a fan works tirelessly to keep you cool and comfortable. The low-walled outside shower gives you a glimpse of the surrounding bushes, adding a touch of nature to your bathing experience.
In this camp, simplicity meets tranquility, creating a haven amidst the wilderness. Each element is carefully designed to provide you with comfort, peace, and a connection to the natural world. So come, immerse yourself in this unique and sustainable retreat, where every aspect is crafted with your well-being in mind.

When I used to work in the financial sector in Rotterdam for almost a decade, I had no idea that my life would take such an unexpected turn. Now, here I am, living my dream with my partner Kim. We are the proud owners of a charming bed and breakfast nestled in the heart of the bush.
Our little piece of paradise is called Kurhula. It’s located in the Balule Private Game Reserve, which is part of the Greater Kruger area. What makes Kurhula so special is its prime location right on the northern bank of the Olifants River. The property is vast and unfenced, allowing nature to thrive.
As soon as you arrive at Kurhula, you’ll be enchanted by the towering wild fig tree that provides a cool, inviting shade. It’s a magical sight to see the kingfishers gracefully hovering above the river, their colorful feathers glistening in the sunlight.
Inside the guest rooms, we’ve created a cozy and stylish atmosphere for our visitors. The walls are adorned with crisp white paint, beautifully contrasting with the earthy tones of the ebony and burgundy mottled slate tiles. The soft linen on the comfortable twin beds invites you to sink in and experience a peaceful night’s rest. And don’t worry, we’ve made sure to install air conditioning to keep you cool and comfortable.
In the morning, you can wake up refreshed and make your way to the shared deck. From there, you can savor a cup of coffee while marveling at the magnificent jackalberry tree. It’s truly a breathtaking sight that perfectly captures the serenity and beauty of the African bush.
Picture this: I’m sitting on the slate stoep of the main building, enjoying a delicious meal while gazing out at the terracotta tiles of the infinity pool below. Chef Kim, who taught herself how to cook, is right there with me, savoring a glass of red wine as she prepares a mouthwatering three-course dinner. Our experience is made even more memorable when a porcupine makes a charming appearance, stealing the spotlight for a brief moment before we dig into a divine berry mousse.
Once we step inside the cozy communal lounge, we’re greeted by the gorgeous big dandelion lamps, adding a touch of beauty and simplicity to the space. These lamps were actually bought from Ikea, a perfect reflection of the Dutch couple’s understated yet tasteful style.
If you want to spot the Big Five, Kurhula may not be your ideal destination. The hilly landscape offers stunning views but lacks the abundance of wildlife you might expect. Game drives are available at an additional cost, giving you the option to sleep in and enjoy breakfast without feeling like you’re missing out on something you’ve already paid for.
Here are the details you need to know:
– Rates: DB&B starts at R820 per person per night when sharing a room. The prices for game drives vary depending on the number of participants, ranging from R150 to R200 per person.
– Contact: For more information, you can call 079-251-8487 or visit www.kurhulalodge.com.
– Traversing area: The reserve spans across 3,000 hectares.
– Five sightings: While you may not see the Big Five, there are still plenty of animals to admire, including giraffes, kudus, waterbucks, zebras, and porcupines.

Now, let’s move on to another exciting destination: Shindzela Bush Camp in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. It’s time to embark on a new adventure!
When you venture deep into the untamed wilderness on the western border of Kruger, you’ll discover a hidden gem. Nestled amidst the sprawling bush is a cluster of inviting tents, warmly inviting you to embark on a transformative experience. This collection of eight tents, arranged in a graceful arc, overlooks a serene, dry riverbed. As you approach, you’ll be captivated by the sight of a charming thatch-roofed deck stretching out like an L-shape at the front.
The deck beckons you to unwind and indulge in the simple pleasures of life. As you settle into one of the cozy wooden armchairs, the canvas-covered cushions embrace you, enveloping you in comfort. Your eyes are immediately drawn to the center of the deck, where a mesmerizing chess table awaits. Its surface, adorned with cubes of ochre, tan, and ebony, exudes an air of timeless elegance.
In the daylight hours, you’ll find yourself splitting your time between this enchanting oasis and the adjacent plunge pool. Just a few steps away, the pool offers respite from the African heat, inviting you to immerse yourself in its refreshing waters.
When you step into a simple tent at The Bush Camp, you enter a world of comfort and practicality. It may not be luxurious, but it offers everything you need for a great bush experience. As I walk in, I’m greeted by a cozy bed that promises a good night’s sleep. Owner-manager Carolien Janse van Rensburg understands the importance of a comfortable bed.
The interior is a mix of camo-green and white, with brightly colored cushions adding a touch of vibrancy. It’s a simple yet inviting space. One thing that caught my attention is the minimalistic lighting. Instead of elaborate fixtures, there’s a strip of energy-efficient LEDs above the wooden door. It’s a small detail, but it adds to the charm of the place.
What I find truly impressive about The Bush Camp is its commitment to sustainability. The entire camp operates on solar power and gas. It’s heartwarming to see businesses taking steps to reduce their impact on the environment. The copper plumbing that peeks through the latte walls of the en-suite outside bathroom is another example of the camp’s practical yet stylish approach.
One feature that perfectly encapsulates the ethos of The Bush Camp is the wooden basin. This beautifully crafted basin drains through a large clay urn, creating a unique and eco-friendly solution. It’s a symbol of the camp’s dedication to combining functionality with tasteful design.
When I spend time at The Bush Camp, I appreciate how simplicity can be truly delightful. Carolien Janse van Rensburg and her team have created a space that prioritizes comfort, sustainability, and remarkable attention to detail. If you’re looking for an authentic bush experience without unnecessary frills, this is the place for you. Take a step back from the chaos of the world and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature at The Bush Camp.
When you stay at the unfenced camp, you’ll be immersed in the wild world of creatures big and small. The camp gets its name from the honey badgers that frequently visit and make themselves at home. Just a few days before I arrived, there was a remarkable sighting as wild dogs took down an impala right in front of Tent No. 1. The team here goes above and beyond to track and observe the fascinating wildlife. Kenneth Kubai, one of the trackers, ventures out of the vehicle to examine lion tracks, while our expert guide, Sam Nyakane, never misses an opportunity to investigate whenever he spots a group of vultures lurking in the thorny woodland savannah.
If you’re looking for the best view, I recommend choosing Tent 6. It overlooks the riverbed, which is a popular gathering spot for various game, including buffalo herds and elephants.
Now, let’s talk about rates. You can enjoy a full-board experience starting from R1 500 per person per night when sharing. Along with your accommodation, this package includes two game drives each day to ensure you have ample opportunities to see wildlife up close.
If you’d like to get in touch, you can reach us at Tel 015-793-1578 or visit our website at www.shindzela.co.za.
Lastly, let me share some details about the vast area you’ll be exploring during your stay. The camp is spread over an impressive 3,500 hectares, providing plenty of space for you to discover the wonders of the African wilderness.
Here are five incredible animal sightings:
– Lion
– Leopard
– Elephant
– Side-striped jackal
– African rock python
Indlovu River Lodge
Karongwe Private Game Reserve
When I arrived at Indlovu River Lodge in Karongwe Private Game Reserve, I felt a profound sense of tranquility. Situated off the R36 between Ohrigstad and Tzaneen, this lodge exudes calmness. The lush lawns, adorned with broad-bladed Lorenzo Marques grass, connect beautiful beds of clivia and agapanthus. As I basked in the serene atmosphere, the sweet scent of wild jasmine filled the air. The soothing cooing of doves in the aviary was occasionally overpowered by the melodious songs of the piet-my-vrou bird. Positioned right on the elevated riverbanks of the Kuvjename River, the lodge is comprised of private, self-sufficient units originally designed for the owners’ adult offspring, Dawn and Ben Venter (parents of Springbok centre Brendan Venter).
Each of the thatched stone and brick buildings can accommodate between two to nine people and features a private pool. While all the units have their own unique advantages, the most coveted one is Chalet Shingwedzi. The master bedroom upstairs is connected to the open-plan lounge and kitchen by a staircase made of sturdy Rhodesian teak. The king-sized bed offers a breathtaking view of the bushbuck-dotted sands of the Kuvjename, with the majestic Drakensberg Mountains lying in the distance. The elegant duvet cover showcases delicate embroidery, complemented by a zebra skin rug and fluffy white towels. Downstairs, the kitchen is equipped with a sharp carving knife for all your roasting needs, and a selection of children’s cups ensures that your little ones can enjoy their sundowners without any spills during the game drives through the diverse landscape of mopaneveld and thorny woodlands, as well as along the picturesque riverine routes teeming with a variety of bird species. With a high number of vehicles in Karongwe, there is a collaborative effort in spotting wildlife. During my visit, I witnessed a thoroughly accustomed cheetah who allowed visitors to get just meters away from her cubs as they delighted in a fresh kill.

Vuyani Safari Lodge
Moditlo Private Game Reserve
As I approach Vuyani Safari Lodge, I’m immediately struck by the sight of assegais and walking sticks lining the entrance. These African artifacts serve as a preview of the vibrant decor that awaits me inside. Located in Moditlo Private Game Reserve, just west of the R40 road that separates it from the Kruger reserves, this lodge has a grandeur that sets it apart.
The moment I step inside, I’m met with the delightful aromas of dinner being prepared by passionate young chefs in an open kitchen. The scents waft out to the expansive two-storey deck, which leads to a magnificent horizon-flow pool. From here, I can’t help but admire the picturesque sight of the nearby riverbed, hidden beneath a canopy of acacia scrub. Beyond that, the northern Drakensberg mountains create a breathtaking backdrop, especially as the sun slowly sets behind them.
Welcome to Vuyani! When you arrive, you’ll find yourself in a cozy central lodge fitted with two bedrooms. And that’s not all – five separate units await you, each with their own en-suite bathrooms. It’s easy to navigate your way around the lodge using the gravel paths that connect everything together.
As you explore the grounds, you’ll come across two fantastic honeymoon rondavels. These special rondavels boast spacious interiors and beautiful thatch roofs. Step out onto the wooden deck that wraps around the room, and you’ll be treated to a stunning view of the surrounding wilderness. Take a moment to unwind in your private spa bath and let the stress melt away!
When it’s time to settle in for a good night’s sleep, you’ll notice a delightful surprise on the double bed – the words ‘Welcome to Vuyani’ spelled out with carefully arranged twigs. This small gesture is a thoughtful touch from our dedicated staff, who are always eager to make your stay unforgettable.
Inside your unit, you’ll find slatted doors that open up to a beautiful stone-tiled bathroom. Here, you can indulge in a relaxing bath or opt for an invigorating shower under the open sky. The choice is yours!
When you go on game drives, you might not get the full wilderness experience. You can hear the noise of the nearby highway where coal trucks pass by regularly. Sometimes, a train also goes through the area. It’s not as wild as you might hope. We even encountered a couple casually walking around their plot on the reserve, which made it feel less like a natural habitat. However, because there are fewer leopards and spotted hyenas, you have a better chance of spotting brown hyenas and aardvarks here compared to the reserves near Kruger.
The rates for staying at this lodge are:
You’ll pay R2 500 per person per night when sharing a room. This price includes two game drives every day and some selected drinks.
If you want to contact the lodge, you can:
Call them at 082-750-0709 or visit their website at www.vuyanilodge.com.
The area you’ll have access to:
Covers a vast expanse of 14,000 hectares.
During your stay, you will likely see:
Hinge-back tortoises, black-backed jackals, white rhinos, kudus, and waterbucks.
As I step into the world of Sausage Tree Tented Safari Camp, I am immediately greeted by a friendly hound wagging its tail, setting the tone for the relaxed atmosphere that awaits me. This hidden gem is located in the Balule Private Game Reserve, nestled in the beauty of the Greater Kruger.
As I make my way through the camp, following the gentle curve of the gravel paths, I can’t help but notice the vibrant pink impala lilies and the towering wag-‘n-bietjie trees that line my way. The camp truly embodies the perfect balance between rustic charm and modern comfort.
The heart of the camp is a majestic marula tree that provides shade for my car, welcoming me to this haven of tranquility. Here, I can feel the stresses of the outside world melting away as I immerse myself in the beauty of nature.
The accommodation at Sausage Tree is truly a treat. Each of the five tents, perched on thatched platforms, offers the perfect blend of space, elegance, and comfort. As I step inside, I am greeted by a cool, tiled floor and the refreshing touch of air conditioning. It’s the perfect sanctuary to unwind after a day of adventure.
What truly sets Sausage Tree apart is the thoughtful attention to detail. Each morning, I am welcomed by bushels of magical guarri decorating the twin beds. It is believed that this touch of nature brings good luck to those who stay here, adding an extra touch of enchantment to my experience.
From the elevated lodge, I can see the gently rolling thorny woodland and the majestic Drakensberg mountains that dominate the horizon. It’s a breathtaking view that you can enjoy while having lunch or watching a herd of impalas or a lone wildebeest make their way to the waterhole right in front of the open-air dining deck. And if you fancy a dip, the low bar connected to the lounge opens up to a pool with brightly colored swimming towels neatly stacked in a basket for your convenience.
One of the highlights of this lodge is the game drives with James Carne, who happens to be one of the co-owners. James’s passion for the bush is evident in every drive. He takes a relaxed approach, allowing you to truly immerse yourself in the experience and learn about the wildlife, rather than just trying to check off the Big Five. What adds to the excitement is that James has an earpiece for the vehicle’s radio, creating an element of suspense as you never know what amazing creature or sight will appear next.

Introducing Nkelenga Tented Camp
Set in the Thornybush Nature Reserve
Looking for Moët in your mini bar? Well, look no further than Thornybush Nature Reserve, located on the western border of Greater Kruger. They have a fantastic selection of high-end accommodations, including the luxurious Thornybush Game Lodge. However, if you’re on a budget and need more beds for your bucks, then Nkelenga Tented Camp is the perfect self-catering option for groups.
Nkelenga Tented Camp offers a simple thatched house and three platformed tents, all overlooking a small dam. The camp is surrounded by a beautiful lawn dotted with marula and knobthorn trees. It’s the perfect setting for kids to run around and explore. And don’t worry, there’s a low electric fence to provide some protection from the animals.
As I step into the house’s open-plan lounge and dining area, I’m immediately drawn to the captivating portrait of a buffalo on the wall. The room is warm and inviting, filled with sink-into couches that encircle a large basket of dry combretum pods. And right in the center, there’s a spacious square dining table, just perfect for enjoying some boardgames.
The kitchen may be simple, but it has everything you need. It’s equipped with all the essential appliances, including three fridge-freezers to keep your beer and boerie nice and cold. And let’s not forget about the loft area, which can comfortably accommodate two kids, while mom and dad can enjoy a cozy double room downstairs.
Now let’s talk about the tents. They are beautifully furnished, with a delightful earthy aesthetic. The caramel carpets perfectly complement the wicker furniture, creating a harmonious blend. And I love the touch of elegance brought by the dark wood bedside tables. The wooden door that separates the bedroom from the en-suite bathroom adds an extra touch of comfort and privacy to the whole experience.
A safari vehicle takes us on two drives every day. Thornybush has many vehicles that can communicate with each other through radios, so we have a good chance of seeing exciting things. Even the thick, thorny woodland can’t stop our determined guides and off-road vehicles from getting us up close to lions and leopards.
The rates for the camp are as follows: It costs R7,500 from Monday to Thursday, and R8,500 from Friday to Sunday. This includes two game drives every day. The camp can accommodate eight adults and two kids.
You can contact the camp by calling 011-253-6500 or visiting their website at www.nkelenga.co.za.
The camp covers a vast area of 15,000 hectares, allowing us to explore and see a variety of wildlife.
During our safari, we have the opportunity to spot five different animals: buffalo, lion, leopard, genet, and kudu.

Now, let’s move on to nThambo Tree Camp.
Discover Klaserie Private Nature Reserve
When you stay at nThambo Tree Camp, you’ll experience the incredible beauty of the bush up close. Located in Klaserie, in the northern part of the Greater Kruger area, this camp offers a unique and unforgettable experience. The lodge itself has a laid-back atmosphere and is designed with open spaces, allowing you to immerse yourself in the surrounding nature.
As you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a central living, swimming, and dining area. This area is open-plan, with a high thatch roof and retractable canvas walls. The deck is adorned with cozy white-cushioned wicker couches, placed on khaki carpets, creating a serene atmosphere. For dining, there is a long table surrounded by director’s chairs, offering a comfortable and communal space to enjoy meals.
The accommodation at nThambo Tree Camp is equally special. Raised off the ground, the five en-suite units have a rustic charm that resembles tree houses. While they are not actually supported by trees, sturdy vertical poles form their main structural support. Low latte railings and sections of safari-green canvas connect the units, adding to the natural ambiance.
I slip under the covers and nestle in, feeling the warmth and security of the thick, tawny blanket. The white duvet beneath me is smooth and wrinkle-free, a perfect contrast to the free-flowing evening breeze whispering outside. The room is filled with the charm of a colonial-era safari, with a wooden coat stand standing guard and two little drawers offering their secret storage. A small writing desk invites me to pen my adventure-filled thoughts, while a tall, dark wardrobe holds my belongings. In a corner, hidden behind the double or twin beds, lies the en-suite bathroom. Its wooden walls create a shield of privacy, ensuring a moment of solitude. As I turn on the shower, there’s a momentary struggle, the plumbing groaning with effort. But soon enough, hot water rushes forth, washing away the day’s tiredness.
Prepare to be amazed time and time again by the incredible abilities of a Land Rover to conquer seemingly impassable terrain in its quest for thrilling sights. We carefully maneuvered through dense vegetation, tracking a leopard as it strategically marked its territory with its distinct scent, reminiscent of fresh popcorn. The reserve’s diverse landscape, featuring mopaneveld, thorny woodland savannah, and small clear pans, attracts a variety of wildlife. Although we wouldn’t describe the reserve as overflowing with animals, you can expect to have excellent sightings on most of your drives.
Now, let’s talk numbers:
– Full-board rates start at just R2 450 per person per night, and this includes two game drives per day.

Next to the dining area, you’ll find a cozy lounge adorned with comfortable leather couches and a floor covered in vibrant kelim patterns. It’s the perfect place to unwind and challenge your companions to a game of pool or darts. As you play, you’ll be surrounded by the majestic gaze of kudu and gemsbok trophy heads, adding a touch of wilderness to the space. Step outside, and you’ll hear the sound of long, green coffee bauhinia pods falling on the brick paving, a natural percussion that blends harmoniously with the tropical ambiance of the grassy gardens. Keep an eye on the trees above, and you might spot a flock of brown-headed parrots, further enriching the exotic atmosphere.
When you stay at Umkumbe, you’ll notice something special about each of the cozy, connected rooms. They may be small, but they make the most of their space. The rooms have their own little porch, which adds a touch of extra room to relax. The beds are really comfy, with soft blankets and pretty pink flowers. And don’t forget the rhino-shaped biscuit!
The room has some furniture too. There’s a wardrobe that doubles as a dressing table, and it’s made of a dark wood that matches the bedside tables. The bathroom is nice and clean, with an olive-green floor and a big shower with beautiful stone tiles.
Now let’s talk about the amazing surroundings of Umkumbe. The land here is just stunning. You’ll see lots of trees and open plains, with grass that’s all different colors: tan, red, and purple. It’s really something to behold. And the best part? The animals! The guides at Umkumbe really know their stuff, so you’ll get to see some incredible wildlife. How lucky are you? When I say “traversing area,” I’m talking about the size of the land that the vehicles from a specific lodge can explore during game drives. This is important because the bigger the traversing area, the more chances you have of encountering exciting wildlife.
Five sightings
“Five sightings” refers to the five most incredible animal encounters we had during two game drives, one in the morning and one in the evening. These sightings give you a great idea of the incredible diversity and quality of the reserve.
